I know when I go to a movie or sit down with my kids to watch one at home, the last thing I am doing is trying to find parenting tips. However, this week I did just that.
I had recently promised our boys they could watch Shang Chi and the Ten Rings at home. We loaded up the movie and our boys were very excited to see all the incredible fight scenes. However, much of the movie focused on the relationship between Shang Chi and his father. Our boys noticed, too. They began to ask many questions. Soon our enjoyable movie night also turned into a lesson on parenting, revenge, and what we want out of life.
You can find various themes like this in many of the Marvel movies. Tony Stark and his working father. Thor and his high-expectation dad Odin. Starlord had a jerk galactic god like figure for a dad. He doesn't count. Yet many of these stories show how the father figure helped mold the hero to who they were today. Lots of pressure for a mid-30's Pediatrician dad sitting on the couch.
